GameCo Video Sales Trend Analysis

Project Overview

The purpose of this project is to present a descriptive analysis of sales for a video game company using Excel to analyze data from 2012 through 2016 in order to present a marketing budget recommendation for the year 2017. The project aims to:

  • Analyze Game Popularity Trends: Assess the popularity of different game genres over time by examining sales figures, user ratings, and active player counts.

  • Competitive Market Analysis: Identify key competitors in various gaming markets by analyzing market share, game performance, and publisher activities.

  • Sales and Regional Performance Analysis: Investigate how the sales of various games have changed over time across different geographic regions.

Key Insights

  • North America is the largest market that has the highest sales numbers, followed by Europe and then Japan.

  • The gap between North America and Europe is narrowing. North America's share of the market is declining to 39% in 2016 and Europe's share is increasing to 33%

  • Action Games have sold more than 440M units, followed by Shooter games and Role-Playing games

  • Genre popularity can vary by region. The popularity of Role-Playing Games is higher in Japan, while Action, Shooter, and Sports games are higher in North America and Europe.
